This tattoo changed everything for me, thanks to @yummihamm who said I could do absolutely anything I liked for his tattoo. Something clicked in me and I stopped trying to draw flash I thought would be popular.

I started concentrating on what I really liked, what I’d get tattooed on me. I got into doing illustrative cartoon style tattoos in bold colour.

Someone passionate about the popular stuff would always do a better job of it than me. Staying true to yourself is always the best path. Your people will always find you.

I drew this lobster lady for my partner, 16 years ago, as an apprentice, but I didn’t tattoo it. I didn’t have the skills back then to do it right. Then life got in the way and finally, 14 years later, I tattooed it on him. It’s one of the bold colour illustrative tattoos I’m most proud of.
