Vulva

Vertical Clitoral Hood (VCH)

As the name implies, the piercing is done centrally through the thin mucocutaneous tissues of the anterior vulva that covers and protects the clitoris.

The most commonly requested vulva piercing due to its ease of healing, high chance of anatomical viability and that many wearers find an enjoyable increase in sensitivity during sexual activities.

Contrary to popular myth, the piercing only goes through the protective skin located above the clitoris and not actually through it. This means it is easy to get done and won’t cause much pain, but it can increase sensitivity.

Horizontal Clitoral Hood (HCH)

Horizontally pierced through the clitoral hood, which resides in front of the clitoris.

HCH, also known in short form, are generally considered more aesthetic than functional, especially when compared to a vertically oriented clitoral hood piercing.

The correct anatomical structure of the vulva is crucial to the longevity of these piercings. Considerations should be taken for active lifestyles, which can result in compression and friction from the thighs, resulting in irritation and issues with healing.

Triangle

The triangle piercing resides horizontally behind the clitoris and through the base of the hood tissue. Generally, the wearer has a significant increase in sensitivity, especially during intercourse, as it ‘pushes’ the clitoris outwards.

Considered a more advanced and less common genital piercing due to the complexity of its placement and variety of anatomical types.

The triangle is a very anatomical piercing, so a consultation is suggested to ensure correct anatomy before getting your heart set on it.

Bleeding can occur for the first week due to the vascular nature of the tissue it passes through, and often a spread-outwards circular barbell (horseshoe) is worn for the healing, allowing the jewellery to rest between the labia majora and minora.

Christina

The christina piercing is a vertically placed surface piercing at the top of the labia majora exiting into the pubic mound. They do not increase sensitivity, but are a very visually attractive piercing that can have many different flat tops.

An indentation where the pubis meets the labia majora is generally required for this piercing to heal well, allowing the bottom ball to reside inside the outer labia without pressure.

It is considered highly anatomy dependent and rarer as they are often prone to healing complications, specifically migration.

Labia Minora

Horizontally pierced through the thinner mucosal inner lips, the internal labia folds.

As minora (inner) tissue is vascular with good circulation, they generally heal significantly faster than majora (outer) piercings.

The piercing jewellery may be visible or concealed depending on the anatomical structure, and multiple piercings are often performed, placed in pairs symmetrically or staggered.

Labia Majora

Horizontally through the outer lips, known as external labia folds, and transversely through epidermal and mucosal tissues.

Infamously referenced and central to the plot of the 1954 French erotica ‘Story of O’ which strongly influenced the development of contemporary BDSM practice.

Multiple piercings are often performed, pairs symmetrically or staggered.

Care needs to be taken for those with active lifestyles, especially those who frequently exercise or play sports, as they may find friction and irritation occurring

Dermal Anchors, also just known just as dermals or anchors, are a very versatile piercing. They are a single point piercing, with a head (top) that can be changed, once healed.

Although these piercings are often seen in many different areas on the body, they should be placed where there is minimal movement of the tissue to prevent rejection. When placed correctly, they typically settle in quite quickly and are “anchored” in place by tissue growing through the base of the jewellery.

It is important to note that dermal anchors are considered “long-term temporary piercings”, as they are prone to migration and rejection. However, with proper placement, jewellery and aftercare, these piercings can last for 10+ years.

They can be safely and easily changed or removed at our studio without any surgical assistance.
